4/29/94 Boatyard Village, Clearwater, FL Trey does something really awry in the pre-Nirvana segment. He plays and
sustains an awry note that sounds like it could start "Glide" (no kidding). It doesn't sound at all good, though, unfortunately.
Sounds like a screw-up (initially). Mike's solo section is fine.. not that great. Trey botches the first Note, too.. not pretty.. at
4:33. His jamming around it, though, in the Pre-charge, is otherwise stellar (as it often is in 1994-5). The second Note, though,
is completely clean, sustained for awhile, and beautiful! In general, though, a below average opening segment for 1994-5
without question. "Boy" at 5:52. WUDMTF segment is wholly standard. Some impressive jamming from Page before the
tramps jam kicks in at 8:04. Mike's signals in this are Wilsonian, at first. At just after 9 minutes, Trey is off the tramps and starts
jamming in straightforward, rock star Trey manner.. not really wailing away yet. Page is, though! Trey opens the jam segment at
10:17 jamming away.. Not that melodious at all, in the beginning.. very quick, hard core licks from him, with some well placed
trilling and distortion. At 11:10 he almost teases the Woody Woodpecker theme.. (and again). In general, though, this jam
segment is anti-melodious, and has a very dark and semi-dissonant feel to it (around 11:30), with some digital delay loop effects
thrown in, too.. it honestly doesn't sound at all "good" to my ears around 12:30.. very chaotic and screwy.. A sinister groove..
Trey employs distortion a la Hendrix in here quite a bit, taboot. At 13:05, though, the jam gets out of this screwy mode, and
starts to sound like a YEM Jam Segment again (with some great stuff from Mike). Sounds like Trey could start teasing Oye
Como Va, but he doesn't. Some very quiet, precious, Harry-like noodling from Trey around the 14 minute point.. the jam quiets
down a lot around this time... Fish is still hotly keeping the groove, but is more reserved.. Trey is still melodiously noodling
around 14:40. Very nice.. Just before 15 minutes, he plays some very jazzy licks, and Fish changes the beat into something
more salsa-like. ;) Mike is funking out.. Page just isn't really here. At 15:20 or so, Trey starts "ba ba ba ba" ing.. some more
vocal stuff like this.. he is repetitively chording, now.. two dark, hard rock chords. At just after 16, Fish kicks out the groove
again, and Trey is just darkly chording/sustaining.. just really raw!!! Some more "Ba ba ba ba"ing noises.. Just a F&CKED UP
jam segment, folks.. Lots of chording in these final few minutes. Incredibly anti-melodious. There's Page on the piano.. at 17:30,
the jam just kinda plods downward, everyone together.. (and a tease of the Jeopardy theme..). FEFY segues out of this at
18:12 (and no, it is not that grand of a segue, unfortunately). I personally disliked this YEM immensely, even though the jam
segment is Very Alternative. Just too much stuff in it that sounded TERRIBLE, imo (yes, I know you love it, Mr. Gouker!). This
is improv that sounds like improv (and not like melodious, composed music, as great improv should sound like, imo). I also
couldn't hear Page much at all during the last several minutes of the jam segment, given the fierce, heavy chords Trey was
putting out. It is admittedly a very unusual YEM jam segment, though, for whatever this is worth. Given its exceptionally
different structure, I can't bring myself to rate it at all. N/R. two cents KingMoron420
